Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction is joint issues of the jaw. This can be very painful and restrict movement of the mouth. It can be mild or severe, and can present intermittently or constantly, depending on the individual.

TMJ Dysfunction can be caused by many things, including tight muscles in the jaw, face and neck. These muscles can pull the jaw out of alignment, and cause pain, clicking, headaches, earaches, frequent ear infections, sinus issues, and make it difficult to chew or speak.

TMJ Massage Treatments work directly with the muscles in and around the mouth (gloves are worn by the therapist during the intra-oral portion of the treatment). It can be uncomfortable at time, similar to a deep tissue massage, but often makes a noticeable difference in the client’s pain levels and range of motion in the jaw. The treatment also includes the neck, shoulders, low back/pelvis, and feet. These areas have all been found to have fascial connections to the face and jaw that can affect the functionality.
