Craniosacral Therapy is a very gentle, clothed, hands-on treatment that aims to release restrictions from the craniosacral system. When these restrictions are released, the client’s body has a greater capacity to heal itself.

This system is made up of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that protect the brain and spinal cord. It begins at the cranium (the head) and moves down along the spine to the sacrum (tailbone). The CranioSacral Rhythm can be felt anywhere along the system, as well as down the thighs and into the feet.

Craniosacral Therapy has been shown to improve the overall health of the Central Nervous System, which then positively impacts healing, digestion, respiration, circulation, and the musculoskeletal system. It also has been found to help reduce the physical presentations of some mental health conditions by assisting with releasing energy that is holding somatic conditions. For example, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression.

With pressure of no more than 5 grams (about the weight of a nickel), Craniosacral Therapy helps to bring the system back to a place of optimal functioning, which then allows the body to heal itself more effectively and efficiently. The therapist will gently move the client’s head, back, hips, and possibly legs to bring them into a position to allow treatment. At times, parts of the client’s body will be resting on the therapist’s hand, such as their tailbone, lower or midback, neck and head.

Craniosacral Therapy is best done with the client lying flat on their back, but can be modified if necessary. Clients are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, and avoid anything constricting or stiff (such as jeans or office attire). Those with long hair are asked to either put their hair in a high ponytail. or leave it down please. Craniosacral is appropriate for most everyone over the age of 10.

A 10-step CranioSacral Therapy treatment typically takes an hour. Mini sessions are available for 30 or 45 minutes. Extended treatment options for 75 or 90 minutes are also available for those who want a little more.
